McCain Cancels TV Appearance After Announcing Campaign Break
Republican presidential nominee John McCain has canceled a scheduled appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" tonight, after announcing earlier today he would put his presidential campaign on hold to go back to Washington in an effort to work with lawmakers to aid the ailing economy.
He asked his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama, to also put his campaign on hold and asked for a cancellation of this Friday's scheduled debate with Obama, but Obama said in a news conference Wednesday that the debate should go on, according to the Associated Press. "It's my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible for dealing with this mess," Obama asserted. "It's going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once."
Left-wing MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann will appear on "Letterman" tonight in McCain's place, along with "Grey's Anatomy"'s actress Chandra Wilson and musical guest, Aussie singer/songwriter Delta Goodrem.
